Areas of Research and Consultation
The DCRC conducts research in a wide variety of fields in mechanical and electrical engineering.
In general, our research can be divided into two main classes: Industrial research and "In-House" research. "In-House" research is concerned with solving fundamental problems found in science and engineering and with developing the research ideas of the Centre’s staff and students. Much of this research is still classed as "in development", and as such has yet to find commercial backing. Some of the current research projects being undertaken by the DCRC include:
Fields of expertise
The DCRC undertakes a wide variety of research, consultation and development in the general areas of mechanical and electrical engineering. In particular, the DCRC has expertise in:
- Respiratory System Dynamics and Devices
- Smart Polymers
- Modelling and Simulation of Dynamic Systems
- Acoustic Analysis
- Structural and Flow-Induced Vibration
- Stress Analysis
International collaboration
The DCRC also has links with several international universities and organisations, including:
- California State University-Pomona, California (USA)
- The Society for Production Engineering and Development (GFE e.V.), Department for Calculations and Testings (Germany)
- School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, The Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa (Israel)
- Department of Physiology & Biomedical Engineering, Mayo Clinic, College of Medicine, Rochester, Minnesota (USA)
- Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Nevada, Reno, Nevada (USA)
Goals and Support
The primary goals of the DCRC are the continued research and development of electro-mechanical engineering; the development and delivery of postgraduate and undergraduate study programs within AUT (and other partner institutions); and the formation of robust collaborations with national and international academic and industrial institutions.
Support for the DCRC is provided through:
- Funding from AUT
- Research activities sponsored by academic, local and national bodies
- Research and consultancy activities with our industry partners
