Postgraduate Information

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a programme made up entirely of research. You enrol in a thesis, which may be focused on any topic, question or problem for which AUT can provide expert supervisors.
AUT regards your enrolment in a PhD as enrolment at AUT as a whole, not just in a school or department. However your principal supervisor belongs to a particular school or department within AUT and it is there that you will find a research culture which supports your topic and infra-structural support for your research.
Your provisional enrolment normally lasts one year until your research plan and approach is fully approved and finalised. You will have two supervisors approved by the AUT Doctoral Studies Board. These may be academic staff from two different faculties depending on the thesis topic.
For specific program requirement, please refer to University's Academic Calendar.
